Time to learn in honour of Mi’kmaq History Month:
Many communities have defined protocol and process for becoming an elder. Gender and age are not a factor in determining who is an elder in a community. Knowledge keepers are those people who may not be considered an elder but  carry traditional  knowledge and expertise in different spiritual and cultural areas.
