Email Communication - November 20, 2020
November 20, 2020
Dear ESDH Families,
Thank you all for your diligence with preventing the spread of COVID-19 by practicing public health protocols.
The daily checklist link is available here as well as on our website:
Here is a link to the
HRCE website that houses more information and links about the Back to School plans:
It takes a team approach to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and we appreciate the added
guidance you have given our Schoons in ensuring that they are staying home if unwell (calling
811 or completing an on-line self-assessment about symptoms), washing/sanitizing their hands
often, wearing a mask properly, and practicing social distance when they can. Direction is taken
from Public Health should there be a need for any action by individuals, families or schools.
Thank you all for your unwavering commitment to the health of our school community!
The following are some important information items:
Report Cards – They were sent electronically this week. If you did not receive your child’s
report card, please contact the school at 902-889-4025 ext 0 or email Ms. Gaetz at
Parent Teacher- It will look quite different this year. Teachers have emailed families about
appointment times that they are available to further discuss your child’s progress. They are
compiling parent/guardian preferences of evening or afternoon contact time. Thank you for your
patience as we work through an extremely unusual year for all.
Student Emails & Google Classroom – All students have GNSPES.CA emails that they should
be monitoring regularly. Their classes also have a Google Classroom access. It is very
important that students regularly access their email and Google Classrooms to ensure they are
prepared should there be a pivot required to on-line learning in a Blended Learning model. By
emailing each of your child’s subject teachers, you can request an invite to their Google
Classroom. Parents/guardians and students are encouraged to also check-in to PowerSchool
to monitor their progress as well. If you have any issues accessing PowerSchool, please contact
the main office by phone or email (email@example.com)
Chromebook loans – if your child requires a Chromebook loan due to not having access to
technology at home, we have been making them available. There is a loan contract that can be
picked up in the office for parents/guardians and students to sign-off prior to receiving a loaned
Chromebook. This information has also been emailed to students. Students who are loaned a
Chromebook are required to bring it to school each day, charged and prepared for use. Cart
sets of Chromebooks are still being used in classrooms and sanitized before and after use.
Virtual School Advisory Council – our next virtual SAC is Wednesday, November 25 at 6:30pm.
All are welcome to attend. Please send a request to the principal for the link to the virtual
meeting at firstname.lastname@example.org
Food Service in Cafeteria - We anticipate having our cafeteria open next week with health
protocols in place. The menu will be reduced yet it offers on-site hot food options for students.
Students are to be socially distanced and wear masks in line as well as sanitize prior to
ordering. Students are strongly encouraged to use the tap option for payment. There are
pre-loadable zip cards available to be used as well. If interested in a pre-loaded Zip card,
please email Ms. Gaetz for more information. There are various lunch spaces available to
students and the list of space options is on a white board listed daily in the lobby. Students are
to sit socially distanced while they eat their food.
Inclement Weather / bus and/or school cancellations – We are nearing that time of year again
where weather may impact buses and schools. Please see the link for more information about
This information is also on our school website. https://esd.hrce.ca/
Community Consultation – There is still time to offer your input! If you have not yet offered your
feedback on consolidating Gaetz Brook Junior High with Eastern Shore District High School in
the new school project announced in 2018, you still can. Please see the link below to the letter
from HRCE’s Regional Executive Director:
PD Day and Afternoon Parent Teacher – Please note that December 3 is a professional
development day in the morning for staff and times for teachers with parent-teacher
communication preferences in the afternoon. This means no classes for our Schoons.
