ESDH Updates - April 7, 2021

April 7, 2021

Dear ESDH Families,

Thank you all for your diligence with preventing the spread of COVID-19 by practicing public health protocols. The daily checklist link is available here as well as on our website: https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/docs/Daily-COVID-checklist-en.pdf

It takes a team approach to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and we appreciate the added guidance you have given our Schoons in ensuring that they are staying home if unwell (calling 811 or completing an on-line self-assessment about symptoms), washing/sanitizing their hands often, wearing a mask properly, and practicing social distance when they can. Direction is taken from Public Health should there be a need for any action by individuals, families or schools.

Together we have been able to keep our communities safe.  Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the health of our school community!

The following are some important information items:

Mid-term Report Cards & Parent-Teacher: Mid-term report cards will be emailed to families and students on April 19th.  Teachers will be emailing families about your preference for an evening or afternoon session.  Please be on the lookout for an email from each of your child/children’s teachers with more information about their available session dates.  You may choose to communicate via email, request a call or video call.  Parents/guardians can monitor their student’s progress with PowerSchool.  If you have any questions about accessing PowerSchool, please contact the main office at 902-889-4025 extension 0 or contact Ms. Kelly Hernon at khernon@hrce.ca

Student Services Parent-Teacher Meetings:  If you would like speak with a member of our Student Services team, Ms. Greenough in guidance or Ms. Murrant and Ms. Rivalin in Resource, please send them an email so that a time can be arranged or feel welcome to contact the main office at 909-889-4025 ext 0  to leave a message requesting a communication.

Guidance: Ms. Greenough - jgreenough@gnspes.ca

Resource: Ms. Murrant - cmurrant@gnspes.ca

Resource: Ms. Rivalin - drivalin@gnspes.ca

PD Day and Afternoon Parent Teacher Thursday, April 22– The morning of April 22 is professional development for staff and the fixed afternoon session for parent-teacher.  Please note that there are no classes for our Schoons this day.

Student Emails & Google Classroom: All students have GNSPES.CA emails that they should be monitoring regularly. Most classes have a Google Classroom access. It is very important that students regularly access their email and Google Classrooms to ensure they are prepared should there be a pivot required to on-line learning in a Blended Learning model. By emailing each of your child’s subject teachers, parents/guardians can request an invite to their Google Classroom notifications.

Course Selections: Current grade 10 and 11 students are preparing for next year with course selection overview.  Please check out our guidance counsellor's website for course information:  http://www.msgreenoughsvirtualguidanceoffice.ca/gr-1112-course-registration.html.  If you have any questions, please feel welcome to contact Ms. Greeenough at:  jgreenough@hrce.ca

Chromebook loans:  We still have some Chromebooks available to students to borrow for the remainder of the year.  Many have taken advantage of this especially if there are numerous siblings trying to share a home device.  Computer-Loan forms are available in the main office for students to have signed by a parent/guardian.  Students then submit them to the office for a ticket to bring to the library to sign out a Chromebook and charger.

Virtual School Advisory Council:  Our next virtual SAC is Wednesday, April 14 at 6:30pm. All are welcome to attend. Please send a request to the principal for the link to the virtual meeting at jmurray1@hrce.ca

Thank you to all of the volunteers who are supporting our Schooners with extra-curriculars this year.  These opportunities have helped bring about some normalcy to an otherwise unique year.

Thank you all for supporting our Schoons!

Take care,

Jennifer Murray

Principal, ESDH
